Cape Town City head coach Eric Tinkler got his first ever trophy as a coach following a 2-1 victory over SuperSport United on Saturday at Peter Mokaba Stadium.
In about 18 months of his coaching career, the former Wits University and Bafana Bafana midfielder embellished his profile by winning the Telkom Knockout with a six-month-old team in the Premier Soccer League.
Tinkler started his coaching career at Orlando Pirates before leaving for the Mother city-based outfit at the beginning of the 2016/2017 season, replacing Muhsin Ertugral who managed the club when it was still called Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Meanwhile, SuperSport United coach Stuart Baxter saw his wait for a Telkom Knockout title extended due to the bitter results obtained on Saturday.
Despite winning all other trophies in South Africa with Kaizer Chiefs and his current employers, Baxter had never won the Telkom Knockout.
Rivalry has developed between the two teams as Tinkler’s side is on top of the log with 24 points while United is 2 points adrift the log leaders. Both teams have played twelve games and there is still a long way to go.
