At university, many don’t strive for distinctions because apparently 50% is a pass, and 51% is a total show off. The anthem is to cram, pass and move on.
Tiego Khoza, a second-year BA Journalism student at the University of Johannesburg (UJ), begs to differ.
“I was taught to do one thing at a time and be exceptionally great at it,” said Khoza, who has Journalism, Applied Journalism, Communication and Politics as his modules.
Khoza is one of the Politics students top achievers who have been chosen to fly to New York (NY) on Tuesday, 17th September, following their stellar results in the module.
We have all encountered the saying that goes: “reach for great heights.” Well, reaching for great heights looks like catching a plane to NY for this particular academic slayer.
He has absolutely no formula that he follows for his great academic excellence.
“Generally, my day is pretty much ordinary; the same for any other student out there. I wake up, eat, leave for campus, attend lectures, come back and study,” said Khoza, who clearly expects every student to study after every lecture.
The trip to NY will mean a lot to Khoza as he thought it would have not been possible, but his hard work and dedication has made the voyage come true.
“I just want nice things. I just want big things for myself. So, I just thought I should try to get them academically,” he said.
We should all pull up our socks and make education fashionable, like Khoza.
