Students at the University of Johannesburg (UJ) use uLink as an integrated, operational system. It combines and renders relevant access and details to the services provided to students within the University.
A nick name for the digital platform is ‘campus-online’ because it creates better and quicker access of the services needed by students and staff.
The online system was initially established to reduce and simplify the load of work at the institution.
Recently during the 2019 academic year, uLink was updated and it now looks different with functions distinguishable from the previous version.
The Open Journal asked UJ students what they think about the new uLink.

Tinashe Simba-Junior Mawoyo, a Civil Engineering second-year student, said, “The new uLink is nice; it’s not as complicated as the old one. The way it shows marks is good and clear, but the only problem is Blackboard, there is ‘marks’, ‘notifications’ and so many things included so it’s complicated.”

Felicia Ndou, a first-year LLB Law student, said, “I find it user-friendly and not boring; I also like the fact that it is vibrant and colourful. The new version is outlined very nicely because everything is just set out in a simple way.”

Lerato Ntebele, a first-year student in BA Psychology, said, “At first, it was so difficult to understand but now I find it simple because most people explained it to me and now, I can easily use it.”

Lindokuhle Nsele, a Bcom Accounting second-year student, said, “It’s bright and I actually like that it has pictures. Everything is just in order like when you look for module related services, they are easily accessible.”

Sbahle Ngozi, a first-year student in LLB Law, said, “Honestly, I don’t like it; it’s so confusing in terms of the timetables, and a lot of stuff is just hidden there so it’s not effective for me. I just prefer the old version of uLink.”

Lyric Amanda Mashele, a Botany and Biochemistry first year student, said, “It’s very complicated, the way the timetable is displayed makes it confusing. The only easy thing is when you want to see your marks.” TOJ
