As events of the day unravelled, The Open Journal spoke to representatives from some of the countries who explained about their culture, food and traditional wear.
Students and teachers were dressed in traditional attire from across South Africa’s diverse cultural groups. The event had a colourful atmosphere in every sense of the word.
I am not in denial of my culture and cultures that have shaped my life; instead, I recognise that they are from different corners of the earth.
Personally, in my home, we don’t have traditional clothing or traditional ceremonies that are linked to an aged old family story.
The key issue is that these negative statements and myths about the different cultures are passed on from one generation to another, which doesn’t benefit the country and its people in any way.
If you were stuck in class there’s no need to worry, because I happen to have a really dishy story for you and I mean that in every sense of the word.
