The University of Johannesburg’s (UJ) Division For Internationalisation Study Abroad Programme aims to enrol 3 000 students by 2025 to be more lucrative, according to the 2017 ‘Africa by Road’ statement from UJ’s Internationalisation Office.
This objective is “geared towards developing UJ students as global citizens, UJ staff as globally connected, mobile, collaborative international faculty,” stated in the statement.
The Division hopes to reach its goal by offering short learning exchange programmes to inbound students that will be “academically rigorous, in line with UJ’s teaching and learning policies.”
To ensure the success of such programmes, the Division strive to provide knowledge pertaining to national, continental, and/or global needs.
This, in turn, will attract “income to assure a long-term viable study abroad programme for the University.”

To better their profitability, the Africa by Road programme – which is a continental engagement programme – has been launched by the Division to increase the low numbers of outbound visits that the second semester of 2017 is experiencing. TOJ
