NTA Subject Matter Expert Recruitment 2026: What Is the Opportunity?
The NTA is looking to create a panel of qualified experts who can contribute to various stages of examination and question-paper development.
The selected experts may be assigned work such as:

Who Can Apply for NTA Subject Matter Expert Empanelment?
The NTA EoI is aimed at academicians, educators, researchers, scientists and professionals with relevant subject expertise.
The major eligibility requirements include a Master’s degree or equivalent in the relevant subject with at least 60% marks. The minimum requirement is 55% for applicants belonging to SC, ST, OBC-NCL, EWS and PwBD categories.
Applicants generally need at least eight years of post-qualification teaching, research or professional experience in their relevant subject domain. Applicants should also have current or recent affiliation with a recognised university, college, research organisation, government department or other recognised institution. Recently retired faculty members within the specified period may also apply.
For applicants interested in translation and multilingual work, demonstrated bilingual or multilingual proficiency and relevant academic translation experience are required.

NTA Translation Reviewer Opportunity
Alongside the SME empanelment, NTA has invited applications for Translation Reviewers to verify translations of examination questions.
The role is different from conventional translation work. Under the proposed system, an AI-based translation platform will produce the initial translation, while human reviewers will check the translated questions for accuracy, terminology, linguistic quality and conceptual correctness.
The reviewer may classify an item as accepted, accepted with corrections or rejected with reasons.
The Translation Reviewer EoI covers languages including Hindi and several regional languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
Applicants for the Translation Reviewer panel must meet specific educational, professional and language-proficiency requirements. The EoI states that the empanelment may remain valid for three years, subject to annual review.
Important Confidentiality Rules for NTA Experts
Because question-paper development is highly sensitive, NTA has specified strict confidentiality requirements.
Empanelled experts may have to sign a Non-Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and follow NTA’s security procedures. Depending on the assignment, confidential work may have to be performed at an NTA-designated secure facility or through an approved secure platform.
Experts are prohibited from copying, photographing, recording or retaining confidential examination material. They must also disclose potential conflicts of interest and comply with NTA’s rules concerning coaching and test-preparation organisations.
