Prime Minister Narendra Modi has launched the Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign aimed at encouraging young people to stay away from substance abuse and contribute to the goal of building a developed India.

The campaign was launched virtually on August 3 and focuses on youth participation, community engagement and public awareness around the harmful effects of drug and substance abuse.

PM Modi Links Drug-Free Youth With Viksit Bharat

Addressing the launch, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the vision of Viksit Bharat requires a physically and mentally healthy youth population.

He emphasised that staying away from substance abuse is important not only for individual health and wellbeing but also for families, communities and the country.

The campaign seeks to encourage young people to become ambassadors of positive social change and spread awareness about the importance of maintaining a drug-free lifestyle.

100-Week Nationwide Jan Bhagidari Campaign

The initiative will run as a 100-week nationwide Jan Bhagidari campaign, with activities planned every Sunday across the country.

The campaign is designed around community participation rather than relying solely on government-led awareness programmes.

A range of activities will be organised to engage young people and communities in promoting a drug-free society.

These activities include:

  • Sports events
  • Walkathons
  • Meditation sessions
  • Cultural programmes
  • Awareness campaigns
  • Nukkad nataks
  • Discussion forums
  • Art competitions
  • Community engagement activities

The activities are intended to use youth participation and local community networks to spread awareness about substance abuse.

Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan

Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Mansukh Mandaviya said the initiative builds on the government’s Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan, which was launched in 2020.

The broader campaign focuses on raising awareness about substance abuse and encouraging collective action involving young people, families and communities.

The government has increasingly focused on youth participation as part of its efforts to address substance abuse and promote healthier communities.

Why the Campaign Focuses on Youth

Young people are a key focus of the campaign because substance abuse can affect education, employment, physical health, mental wellbeing and family relationships.

By combining awareness programmes with sports, cultural activities and community participation, the government aims to encourage healthier alternatives and greater social engagement among young people.

The campaign also places responsibility on communities to participate in preventing substance abuse rather than treating it only as an individual problem.

Campaign Aims to Build a Drug-Free Society

The Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat Sankalp Abhiyan is expected to involve youth organisations, communities and other stakeholders over the next 100 weeks.

Through weekly activities and public participation, the government aims to build sustained awareness around substance abuse and encourage young people to play an active role in creating healthier communities.

The initiative links the broader objective of a drug-free India with the government’s vision of Viksit Bharat, placing youth participation at the centre of the campaign.
