The PM Young Achievers Scholarship Award Scheme for Vibrant India (PM-YASASVI) has supported more than 1,069 lakh students and beneficiaries through scholarships, hostel infrastructure and education initiatives, according to the Government of India.
The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment said that ₹15,555.53 crore was released under various components of the scheme between 2014-15 and 2025-26. The scheme focuses on improving educational opportunities for students belonging to Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC) and Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT).
What Is PM-YASASVI?
PM-YASASVI is a government education support scheme designed to help students from OBC, EBC and DNT communities continue their education and access better educational opportunities.
The scheme includes multiple components covering pre-matric and post-matric scholarships, hostel infrastructure, and Top Class Education at school and college levels.
According to the latest government data, the scheme’s different components have collectively supported more than 1,069 lakh beneficiaries across the country.
The government says the initiative aims to promote educational continuity, reduce the risk of school dropouts and improve access to quality education for students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
₹15,555.53 Crore Released Under PM-YASASVI
Between 2014-15 and 2025-26, the government released a total of ₹15,555.53 crore under the various components associated with PM-YASASVI.
The largest share went towards the Post-Matric Scholarship, followed by the Pre-Matric Scholarship and other education-support initiatives.

Pre-Matric Scholarship Benefits 642.58 Lakh Students
The Pre-Matric Scholarship component provides financial assistance to eligible OBC, EBC and DNT students to help them continue their school education.
From 2014-15 to 2025-26, ₹2,163.15 crore was released under this component, covering 642.58 lakh beneficiaries.
For 2025-26, ₹252.21 crore was released, with 25.22 lakh students provisionally covered. The government has clarified that the 2025-26 beneficiary figures are provisional and are being compiled by States and Union Territories.
Post-Matric Scholarship Covers 425.66 Lakh Students
The Post-Matric Scholarship component supports eligible students pursuing education after matriculation, including higher and professional education.
Between 2014-15 and 2025-26, ₹12,118.75 crore was released under this component, benefiting 425.66 lakh students.
In 2025-26, ₹1,138.88 crore was released, with 31.29 lakh beneficiaries provisionally covered.
Hostel Infrastructure for OBC Students
PM-YASASVI also addresses the need for residential facilities for students who may have to travel away from their homes for education.
From 2014-15 to 2025-26, the government released ₹346.79 crore for creating 28,865 hostel seats for OBC boys and girls.
In 2025-26 alone, ₹21.06 crore was released for the creation of 3,700 hostel seats.
Top Class Education at School and College Levels
Another important part of PM-YASASVI is its Top Class Education initiative.
The Top Class Education in Schools component was introduced in 2022-23 to provide assistance to meritorious OBC, EBC and DNT students studying in identified top schools.
Since its introduction, ₹116.69 crore has been released and 45,228 students have benefited. The number of beneficiaries increased from 1,275 in 2022-23 to 27,007 in 2025-26, according to the government.
The Top Class Education in Colleges component was introduced in 2023-24. Between 2023-24 and 2025-26, it supported 37,937 students, with ₹810.15 crore released under the component.

PM-YASASVI primarily supports students belonging to:
- Other Backward Classes (OBC)
- Economically Backward Classes (EBC)
- Denotified, Nomadic and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT)
