As this year’s UJ Campus Football League draws to an end, only a few matches are left in each league and title contenders are in a crucial position for campus football dominion.
There are two UJ Campus Football Leagues played yearly and at the end of every season, two teams from the Promotional league get promoted to play in the Major League. The last two from the Major are demoted to the Promotional.
Major league
There has been an improvement and consistency in the last couple of games with teams like Robin Crest FC, number one on the log, are six points clear away from YMCA FC who holds the second position. Only six games are left to be played and it looks like the Robin Crest FC are separating themselves as real title contenders.
Major league newcomers from Promotional league, Ikhayalethu seem to be struggling with only one win and losing nine games. They face an impending doom of being relegated to the promotional league at the end of the season unless something magical happens.
Another newcomer, Mill Junction FC, is performing quite well, holding the number four spot on the log table after winning five games, losing two and drawing twice.
Akanani FC has been consistently in position four since the start of the season while Saratoga FC has been impressive, moving up the log table during the season.
However, Saratoga FC hasn’t been impressive enough like the Civils who have stunned most teams by moving from number fourteen in the start of the season to number five.
Posi FC was doing okay in the start of the season but it’s slowly losing momentum finding themselves in the ninth position. At this crucial time of the season, the league can go either way. With Robin Crest FC and YMCA FC, there is a difference of three points between these two teams.
Keynotes on both teams
- Robin Crest FC: Has not lost any game, won eight games and drew one.
- YMCA FC: Won seven games, lost one game, drew one game.

The last matches will be played on the 30th of August 2019.
Promotional league
In the promotional league, there are eleven games played so far and the title can go either way as there are three teams, just one point apart. It is a tight-knit battle amongst MVSL All-Stars, EFF SC and Electrical FC. There have not been many changes to the log table standings back in April since the top three has basically remained the same.
On the other end of the spectrum, it seems like Thomas Sunkara FC, a relegated team from the major league is struggling to find their footing with only two games won after ten games played.
Kopano FC which is another relegated team from the major league seems to be performing well, currently at number four on the log table with seven games won. Buthelezi FC has been sitting on position fourteen since the start of the season with only two games won out of the eleven games. One team which has dropped the ball as the season commences is Flying Boys now at position seven.
Citiq Sundowns is starting to gain momentum moving up on the log table now at position six. The top five teams in the log are consistent winning almost 50% of their league games.
The league can either be won by MVSL All-Stars or EFF SC who are number one and number two respectively in the log table standings. MVSL All-Stars and EFF SC did play once together which we saw MVSL ALL Stars win the match with 2-1.
