The Centre has stated that the Computational Thinking and Artificial Intelligence (AI) curriculum has been developed for students of classes III to VIII starting in the 2026-27 academic session. Meanwhile, the curriculum for Class IX through XII is completed.
The Minister of State, Education Jayant Chaudhary said in the Rajya Sabha that the curriculum was designed in collaboration with NCERT. National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in collaboration with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE).
The curriculum includes patterns, logical reasoning algorithms, data literacy, as well as the ethical and responsible usage of AI. Computational Thinking has been positioned as a basis for appropriate for a range of ages. AI learning throughout school grades.
Guides for facilitators and teacher handbooks are also being prepared to assist in the implementation of AI and are accessible via the CBSE website. Schools that offer AI as an option are required to provide infrastructure that is in line with CBSE guidelines for curriculum and affiliation.
The government also promoted it’s Skilling for AI Readiness (SOAR) initiative, which comprises classes on AI basics as well as the generative AI cybersecurity, ethics, programming and new career options for students in Classes VI to XII.
The Centre declared that the plans are in line with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 as well as the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 which calls for a more incorporation of computing, AI as well as related topics in the school curriculum.
